It made sound a little crazy, however the very serious ‘Greater Green River Intergalactic Spaceport’ in the northern part of Green River, Wyoming has been courting alien visitors since the mid-90’s.
In 1994, NASA learned that Jupiter was in some danger of being hit by a number of errant fragments of the Shoemaker-Levy 9 Comet. It was thought that the resulting debris might fly back out into the solar system, with some of it reaching Earth.
Although there is no scientific evidence to support the notion that the Red Planet harbours life, the city planners of Green River took it upon themselves to create a 5,000-foot ‘landing strip’ should any sentinel beings be uprooted due to the comet.
They called it the “Greater Green River Intergalactic Spaceport.”
Strangely enough, the Spaceport has yet to se any extraterrestrial landings, but with galactic turmoil being an almost constant threat, its good to know that the United States has its arms open to the interstellar community.
