The Ghostly Blue Cave Of Bisevo, Croatia

Croatia has become one of Europe’s hottest travel destinations in recent years, with the Dalmatian city of Split being a popular starting point from which to explore the thousand plus islands that run along the coast.

However, for the adventurous, there is one must see sight that takes a little more to reach than simply jumping on a ferry.

The ethereal glowing Blue Caves are a stunning treat for those that take time to visit them.

Starting from Split, you must get yourself to the Croatian island of Vis. Once there, you take a bus or motorbike to the other side of the island, to the tiny fishing town of Komiza.

From there, you will need to hire a boat or take a tour to the island of Bisevo. Finally, you will approach the cave via a rubber raft, small enough to enter the tiny cave entrance.

Though Croatian fisherman have known of the blue cave since ancient times, it wasn’t until 1884 that this entrance was blasted out with dynamite.

Sunshine illuminates the cave walls a brilliant blue, creating an ethereal glowing blue grotto. It really is a truly enchanting natural wonder, and well worth the effort to get there.
