Millionaire Rents His Mansions for $1 a Month to Tornado Victims

A generous businessman from Texas is renting out two of his mansions for just $1 a month to the victims of the recent tornadoes that have devastated the state.

Ron Sturgeon has a reported value of $75million. He has announced that affected families can live in his mansions for three months, for the sum of a dollar per month.

The two houses have a combined value of $3.5million and are unoccupied while being on the market for sale.

Sturgeon was on holiday when the tornadoes struck. However after seeing the destruction caused felt that he wanted to help in any way he could. Helping the homeless using the empty the mansions was an easy choice for him.

“Does anyone have friends or relatives that lost their home in Garland or other city that needs housing?” he wrote on his Facebook page.

“I have a 10,000sf home in Colleyville (empty for sale) that I will loan to someone to stay in for up to three months. And an extra car they can use. No charge. The home is big enough for two families. The home is pet friendly with a 10 car garage to store belongings in.”

The post of course went viral and was shared over 10,000 times. After the receiving such an overwhelming response, Sturgeon later posted the second home as well.

Sturgeon told the media:

“I got up Tuesday morning and I was looking at my Facebook, and I was just seeing all these posts about lost dogs and families that didn’t have a place to go.

“I was just thinking about having those two big homes,” he added. “We’ve got them listed for sale, and it doesn’t make sense for them to be vacant when somebody could be using them that obviously would have a great need.

“Some people think I’m crazy, and why would I do that. But I have a thousand tenants, so I understand tenants and I understand rental properties. I’ve never been a victim of a tornado, but it’s pretty devastating looking at these pictures.”

With such huge demand, Sturgeon has had no choice but to take the applications on a first-come first-served basis. Only those that have lost their entire homes in the storms are valid for the offer.

All that is required is that applicants pass a background check and have a decent credit score.
